According to the dictionary, Retribution means, “Punishment inflicted on someone as vengeance for a wrong or criminal act,” and if you have read The Harbinger, the first in the series of books from The Harbinger Chronicles, you will know exactly why author Christopher Huntingford decided on, “Retribution,” as the title of his second book.
Retribution opens 6 months after the gruesome death of Prince Alexander’s older brother the Crown Prince Edward. Unable to concentrate on much of anything, Prince Alexander is determined to get Retribution for the shocking and untimely death of his dear brother Prince Edward. However, it isn’t until the young Katrina, who seems to have been raised from the dead, comes to Alexander that the Prince has high hopes that he will indeed get the Retribution that the late Prince Edward so rightly deserves.
Chapter II of Retribution finds the young Prince unable to contain his excitement as young Katrina tells her story. Begging to be taken to the place where he can finally get his Retribution, Katrina complies as long as Prince Alexander agrees to save her family.
Katrina’s family, just like everyone else in Greystone, was presumed dead when Alexander and his guard Chauncey arrived to find the township on fire and deserted. Of course, Katrina’s family was thought to have been butchered by Duncan’s men as no bodies had ever been found. However, Katrina tells a different story that makes Prince Alexander promise to save her family who are being held prisoner in a village not far from the border. In exchange, she must take Prince Alexander to the place where he can finally get his Retribution. She agrees, but tells the young Prince that she will not go near the cave as it is surrounded by evil, something that the young Prince knows far too well.
Will Prince Alexander be able to convince his Father King Magnus that his eldest son’s death will finally be avenged? Only time will tell in Retribution.
